2010 AMA Grand Tours with KOA Along the Way

KOA logo Allentown PA The AMA Grand Tours Series with KOA Along the Way is growing again this year, offering even more fun for riders all over the United States. With the backing of Kampgrounds of America and our other prize sponsors, five AMA chartered riding clubs will each present one uniquely themed Grand Tour in the Series. Choose one Grand Tour or, if you can’t decide, do them all! These are opportunities for challenging and just plain beautiful rides. Gather a group or go on your own.

In each entry package, grand tour riders will receive a yearlong discount card for stays at KOA Kampgrounds across the United States and Canada, as well as other goodies provided by these AMA clubs. Each grand tour will have a different scoring system, but all riders who finish an AMA Grand Tour Series event will earn one entry in the series grand prize drawing that will be held in December. Riders who complete at least four of the five Grand Tours will receive a Master Grand Tourer certificate from AMA Road Riding, plus an extra entry in the grand prize drawing.

The five Grand Tours that will make up the 2010 AMA Grand Tours Series with KOA Along the Way are:

Apple The Call of the Wild with KOA Grand Tour presented by the Midnight Riders.
In this year’s Call of the Wild Grand Tour, you’re seeking ‘wild’ place names in cities, towns, counties, etc., that contain one of these animal names: hen, ant, deer (can be spelled “dear”), elk, dog, cat, bird, eagle, bear or an insect or animal name not listed. The ‘wild’ word can stand-alone or be part of a larger word, like Eagle Creek or Elkhart, Ind. Find 30 and submit photos (or a CD) of the ‘wild’ sign with your bike and Tour ID sign. Full details, rules and registration form are available on the club’s website. Tour dates are April 1-November 30, 2010. Visit Midnight-Riders-mc.com.

The Titanic Grand Tour presented by the Great Lakes Motorcycle Club.
On April 14, 1912, the 46,000-ton Titanic was sunk by just one iceberg. How many ‘tons’ can YOUR ‘berg’ bring down? Visit one town ending in -berg and as many as you can find ending in –ton. For more information, contact club member Lee Bruns at motopsycho@wat.midco.net or check the club’s website for rules and registration form, GLMC.org/grand-tour.html This tour runs from April 14 to September 15, 2010.

Smiley Face I’ve Been Everywhere Classic Grand Tour presented by Road Winders Motorcycle Club.
It’s back! Possibly the most popular AMA Grand Tour of all time, the AMA 'I've Been Everywhere' Classic Grand Tour returns after five long years away and it's going to be better than ever! You will receive a list of places named in the classic Johnny Cash song with your paid entry. Then you have from April 1-November 30, 2010 to find those places, take a picture of your bike there and move on down the road. Email Joseph Sloan, hogman19053@yahoo.com for more details.

In addition to earning points for visiting destinations for each of the above AMA Grand Tours, riders will also earn bonus points for visiting KOA’s motorcycle-friendly camping resorts.

The National Parks Grand Tour presented by the Iron Butt Association.
Visit at least 50 National Parks, Monuments, Historic Sites or Recreation Areas in at least 25 states. It’s a great way to see some of the most beautiful spots in the country. Find out more at IronButt.com/NPT and contact Mike Kneebone with questions at kneebone@ironbutt.com.

Erie KOA

The USA Four Corners Grand Tour presented by the Southern California Motorcycle Association (SCMA).
The USA Four Corners Grand Tour is back for another big season! This event is for experienced riders only. The point of this extreme Grand Tour is to visit the four geographic corners of the USA. That’s it – four destinations. Oh, did we mention you have 21 days to do it? That’s the challenge of the USA Four Corners Grand Tour. Are you up for it? The four official checkpoints are: 1. San Ysidro, California; 2. Blaine, Washington; 3. Madawaska, Maine; 4. Key West, Florida. Complete rules and sign-up form are available at www.usa4corners.org and call David L. Johnson with your questions at (909) 271-0137.
